I'm baaa-aackk! =D
Oh, just for the record, I'm done with my self-initiated Penang tour last week and here's what's taken place.
Weeks earlier, I was suddenly struck by the though of travelling alone. Yes, going solo, that is. Not because of loneliness or whatever you wanna call it, but maybe it was just the urge to try out something new and exciting that all this while I've not experienced before. Not even to mention that I am what my mum termed as, 'not seasoned traveler'. Yeah well, that's why I have to put my first step forward in order to upgrade myself to at least a partial seasoned traveler. XD
I was kind of looking forward to this trip to be honest. Being there at the bus terminal at the KL Train Station, I think, and literally counting down to the exact minute when the bus finally revs up its engines and rolling its wheels. And though it may sound a tad bit childish or clingy or anything you could think of, I had the sudden welling of tears in my eyes when I was about to leave. Oh well, not really welling but the feeling when your eyes seem to burn when you know you're about to cry. Yup, that was the feeling I felt. But nonetheless, I was OKAY! In fact, I was perfectly fine. ;P Just, well, like I said, everything has its first time and no doubt this was one of them too.
The journey was um, what I should call, excruciatingly LONG. It was a 4-hour drive and yes of course, we have stopped for a 20-minute break in between. But still, it was super long. Thank God I was able to handle it for both to and fro journeys. Snapping random and silly pictures of mostly scenery. The whole journey, well almost, was only what appeared to be rows of trees, trees and trees. And maybe plantations and crops. And at one point after we've reached Ipoh, I was somewhat glad that finally there were some civilization. Boy was I glad to see some houses and shop lots! ;P
Some of these days I'll tour Ipoh. ;D
It was 8+ when we finally reached Penang. Believe it or not, I was so certain that we were on the Penang bridge at that time even though the sky was already so dark and I couldn't see any signboards indicating my hunch. And I was definitely more than excited and HYPER when I realized I was right above the Straits Sea. Gosh I adore the ocean! <3 Like, seriously!
That night I had my first taste of the famous Penang Char Kuey Teow. I'm sorry I'm not that a professional food critic or taster because as far as I'm concerned, besides the portion and price, I could not really point out the differences in taste between that in Penang and those in KL. Sorry, I just suck at that man! Most food taste the same to me! HAHA
I'm polishing myself on that skill though. ;P
I'm polishing myself on that skill though. ;P
No idea what you call this but it was quite tasty. =D
The night eatery street where we had our dinner on the first night.
Fried oysters! Not bad though since it was my first time trying this dish.
And definitely not forgetting my first Penang Fried Kuey Teow! Hmm, yummmm!
Throughout the entire period we were at Penang, we stayed in my mum's friend's sis' house. On the second night onwards, we were 'transferred' to the guest house which was separated from the main house. If that's what you call it cause idk what terms to give them. ;P
One thing I realized about Penangites, they seem pretty wealthy to me. Well, at least the houses they live in are quite big compared to most houses we have in KL. Some were just like mansions! Well, they probably are though. Gee, just how nice would it be to have a separate guest house. Ahh, I wish, I wish. ;P
However, one downside of the trip was that, I had not had comfortable nights. Gosh, my nights were just plain restless! I'm sorry but I really don't mean to be ungrateful or what but really, my whole body from head to toe has been bitten by mosquitoes and when I got back from KL only did I realize there were actually pretty obvious mosquito punctures on my limbs. Sigh =( I seriously dislike mosquitoes! Good thing I'm not down with Dengue fever. Not even close to that. Hmm, maybe I should be thankful for that, at least. Sorry for the complains though. Yikes =/
I think I love Penang. =)
I guess if I were to go there for a second time, I would not seem so much like a lost traveler but as someone who would be able to go about the island. =)
Thanks for everything! =D
Looking forward to my next trip, hopefully soon. =D
